The world's leading voluntary GHG program

Projects and Programs

VCS projects include a wide variety of technologies and measures which result in GHG emission reductions and removals. Projects are categorized by their sectoral scope, which range from renewable energy projects (such as wind projects) to land use projects (such as improved forest management projects). All VCS projects must complete a rigorous development and assessment process before registering with the VCS Program.

VCS projects are often a single unit of activity operating at a specific location, but VCS also allows for grouped projects which are permitted to add new units of activity over time and across various locations. To get a better sense of the variety of real-world VCS projects, we encourage you to explore the VCS project database, which lists registered projects and projects pursuing registration.

Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ (JNR) programs are government-led REDD+ programs that apply a comprehensive, integrated accounting and crediting framework to harmonize emission reductions across national REDD+ programs as well as subnational and/or project activities.
