Julianne (Julie) coordinates VCS’ engagement with sustainable development issues.

Julianne previously managed the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Program and served on VCS’ Sustainable Landscapes team, where she focused on supporting governments, NGOs and the private sector in African and Central American countries in their use of VCS’ land-based frameworks. These include Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ and the Landscape Standard.

Prior to joining VCS, Julianne worked for the Rainforest Alliance. There she worked in the executive office and helped to start the Climate Program. Her role included support to and capacity building with communities, governments and businesses to improve the GHG mitigation and climate change adaptation capacity of the farms and forests they managed. Julianne also led early auditor trainings in the CCB Standards and VCS that launched RA-Cert’s role as a validation/verification body for carbon projects. She was a representative of the Rainforest Alliance to the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Alliance.

Julianne earned a Master’s in Forest Resources from the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences and a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from the Evans School of Public Affairs, both at the University of Washington, and a Bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies from Middlebury College.
