Become a VVB
Validation/verification bodies can be approved under the VCS Program through two main pathways.
VVBs must sign an agreement with the VCS Association and meet VCS eligibility requirements to perform VCS validation and/or verification under the program.
Eligibility requirements:
- Accredited under a GHG Program recognized by the VCS Program (CDM, CAR); or
- Accredited under ISO 14065 for scope VCS by an accreditation body that is a member of the International Accreditation Forum
Based on the above criteria, the following entities are currently eligible:
- Designated Operational Entities (DOEs) approved under the CDM program can perform VCS validation and/or verification for the same sectoral scopes for which they are accredited. List of DOEs
- Accredited Independent Entities (AIEs) approved under the Joint Implementation program. List of AIEs
- Certification Bodies (CBs) approved under California's Climate Action Reserve may perform VCS verification (but not validation) for the sectoral scopes for which they are accredited. List of CAR certification bodies
- Entities accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under ISO 14065 with scope VCS. List of ANSI-accredited entities (see VVBs listed with accreditation at the project level)
So far only ANSI has accredited entities under ISO 14065 with scope VCS, but other national accreditation programs may follow this path.

Suspension or Loss of Accreditation
An entity that loses its accreditation under the GHG program can no longer perform VCS validation or verification.
An entity that is suspended under the GHG program cannot issue VCS validation or verification reports for the duration of the suspension. VCS validation or verification reports issued before or after the suspension are valid.
